A wonderful collection of photographs depicting launch day at the John Harker shipyard in Knottingley.

From the launch of the first motor vessel, 'WILLIAM KIPPING' in November 1929, over the next 50 years more than 300 vessels of all types and sizes were launched from the John Harker yard into the Knottingley-Goole canal, an occasion witnessed and fondly remembered by many local schoolchildren, myself included. Shipbuilding continued at John Harker until the final launch, that of the tanker 'CONVEYOR', on 10th October 1979.
