'BORROWDALE H' DISAPPEARS INTO MIST AT LAUNCHING
'Borrowdale H' the all welded single screw motor tanker launched at the Knottingley yard of John Harker (Shipyards) Ltd., splashed into the water and a moment later a bank of mist descended. In five minutes it was lost until the mist cleared.
The tanker which has a carrying capacity of 590 tons was launched by Mrs Jane Usher, daughter of Mr C.Crossthwaite, Deputy Chairman of the Lyon and Lyon Ltd., (the group to which the Harker company belongs). Completion is planned for the end of January after which the vessel will carry heavy oil between UK ports.
The 297th vessel to be launched from the Knottingley yard and the 103rd tanker to be built there for John Harker Ltd., 'Borrowdale H' is the largest sea-going ship capable of being built at Knottingley. She is the sister ship of 'Grovedale H' built there a few years ago. It has comfortable accommodation for a crew of five.
As 9 months work disappeared into the, mist the yards technical director, Mr B. Wilson, remarked "we just launched her in time."
