John Harker's Besthorpe

Registered at Hull number 52 on 29th November 1957. A steel tanker barge with an eight-cylinder Gardner engine built by Harkers in 1957. Measurements 138.20ft x 17.56ft x 6.50ft, gross tonnage 152.70, register 56.78. Registration cancelled on 1st December 1975 and vessel broken up.

Mrs W.E.Lyon performed the launching ceremony at the Knottingley yard of John Harker Ltd., on Wednesday, of the 'CANSDALE H' , the 228th vessel to be built at the yard and the 77th to be built at Knottingley for Messrs Harker. Designed for transporting heavy oil, and service on the River Trent, the new tanker has a capacity of 230 tons of oil, accommodation for a crew of three, and electrical cooking and heating. She is the sister ship of the 'CROSSDALE H', the 'CORDALE H', and the 'COLEDALE H'.
