CARGO BARGE LAUNCHED

An all welded general cargo barge 'FREDA CARLESS' for the Flixborough Shipping Company, was launched at the Knottingley shipyard of John Harker Ltd., on Thursday by Miss Freda Carless, daughter of the late B. Pittwood, who was Secretary-Director of the firm.
It is 113ft 2ins long and 17ft 6ins broad with a gross tonnage of about 135 tons and a carrying capacity of 268 tons. 'FREDA CARLESS' is the 262nd vessel launched from the Harker's shipyard, and the second vessel to be built at Knottingley for the Flixborough Shipping Co. Ltd.
The first vessel 'FRANCES MARY' was completed in January and a third is at present under construction.

NOTES: Registered at Hull number 24 on 26th May 1964. A general cargo steel barge with a six-cylinder Gardner engine built by Harkers in 1964 for Flixborough Shipping Co. of Scunthorpe. Measurements 109.50ft x 17.60ft x 7.30ft. Gross toinnage 136.27, register 97.48. Re-registered number 61 on 22nd November 1973 after being lengthened. New measurements 125.35ft x 17.60ft x 7.30ft, gross tonnage 161.52, register 120.73.
