CARGO BARGE LAUNCHED

The single screw motor cargo barge 'GIRTON' for Lincoln and Hull Water Transport Co., Ltd., Hull, was launched by Mrs T. Tomlinson junior at the shipyard of John Harker Ltd., Knottingley, yesterday. Its length is 125 feet and breadth 21 feet 6 inches, and it has a carrying capacity of 410 tons, with a speed of seven to eight knots. There is accommodation for a crew of two.
This is the 266th vessel launched from the firms shipyard and the first to be built at Knottingley for Lincoln and Hull Water Transport Co. A sister ship for the same owner is under construction at the Knottingley yard.

NOTES: Registered at Hull number 55 on 10th December 1964. A general cargo steel barge with a six-cylinder Gardner engine built by Harkers in 1964 for the Lincoln and Hull Water Transport Co of Hull. Measurements 125.40ft x 21.55ft x 7.60ft, gross tonnage 197.58, register 131.73. Rebuilt by Drypool Engineering and Dry Dock Company of Hull in 1968.
